Language School is Visited by Sustainability Expert
Sandi Martin, CEO of Amata Green, an American Company, visited Inlingua Language School of Jaén Spain yesterday to talk to students about sustainability.
Ms. Martin spoke to the class about Amata Green’s project which will be setting up in the Jaén area next year, and bringing new jobs to Jaén. The project involves taking waste from the olive sector and turning it into a product called “Biochar.” Biochar is a substance that is greatly needed in the olive & agricultural industries, as it helps growers reduce water usage, reduces erosion problems, maintains healthier olive trees, creates healthier soil and produces greater olive yields. Additionally, for every 1 ton of biochar made, approximately 3 tons of C02 is captured. Making biochar is literally helping to mitigate climate change.
Inlingua Language School teaches English and French to Spanish students of all ages. Mihaela Strungariu, Director of Studies, hosted the visit during one of her regular classes. Ms. Strungariu stated that, “Having a native English speaker in our classroom gives the students real-world experience of the nuances of the English language. It is also great to teach the students about important topics such as sustainability and climate change.”
